A lot of people suggest eating a vegan pattern during January to promote health in the new year. If you are doing it for the health of animals you will be successful. However if you are doing it for your personal health you may or may not see improved health. You may be confused since vegan eating and good health are often synonymous. It all depends upon your food choices. Potato chips are vegan yet not healthy. If you look at the ingredients and nutritional label for vegan products such as cheese and hot dogs you will discover they contain unhealthy ingredients, fat and have little nutritional value. This is considered vegan junk food. Compare this to fruit, vegetables, potatoes, whole grains and more that are also vegan choices. Most of these don’t even have an ingredient list- all natural and full of nutrients. So if you are participating in vegan January make intentional healthy choices to get the most benefit.
